This is the K Family. I can’t even begin to write how much I love this family (I’m especially fond of Trisha, she’s just “my people”). We set out one evening to have a sunset session with her husband, Mike, and 2 little boys. I have 3 girls, so being around boys is such a new and refreshing feel. They really are different, huh? Preston and Mason were hilarious during our shoot. Young boys are fond of the silly face and we did get some of those shots! Let’s have a look at the K family’s photos.

WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM THIS SESSION? Taking family photos with little kids can be frustrating and nerve wracking. Let’s be honest, you want your kids on their best behavior when you’re paying to have photos done. Often, we moms (and I’m so guilty of this), pressure the kids when we feel like the photographer isn’t getting what they want. The good news is that family professional, seasoned family photographers are used to kids and we know that no children pay 100% attention and act like a grown-up 100% of the time…they just don’t. Trisha did a great job of reiterating what I was asking of the boys but never harped on them or got frustrated with them. She just laughed right along with me. These boys are funny and they’re full of little boy quirks. Next time you’re in the situation where you feel pressured to have your kids act a certain way, just take a step back and realize that it’s okay for kids to be kids, professionals understand this. Trisha and Mike’s interaction with the boys during the shoot kept the boys in good moods, happy and not feeling pressured by having to do this! Great job Mike and Trisha!

I hadn’t met the L Family before shaking hands with them at our session. When I saw a little red-head get out in sparkly, pink shoes I almost did a backflip out of sheer happiness. There is something about red hair and freckles that is so amazingly adorable through a camera lens…plus, pink shoes? Get out. This family definitely met expectations in the adorable department. Every. Single. Last. One of them. We walked around, tried our best to capture the kids being themselves and yet still looking in my general direction. They all got gold starts on picture day. Thanks L fam!

WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM THIS SESSION? Check the clothes, first. Pink, blue, gray. Awesome. A little bit of bling, a few patterns and you’ve got yourself a great mix for family photos. What you can really learn from this session is how Julie (mom) did her ordering after the session was over. She did a great job of selecting some photos as digital images so that she could reprint them at her own leisure, but she also got some amazing prints for her home and a big canvas. She wasn’t afraid to say, “yea, my family IS, in fact, the most adorable family in all the land, let’s go big!” After all, if you’re going to take the time to get your family dressed and ready for a photo shoot, why not celebrate this accomplishment?
